Umut joined Scape in 2023 as an Associate Architect and is currently working in the public and IT service sector.
What makes Scape special for you?
For me, Scape is the go-to place for EA topics. Here, EA is not seen as an IT landscape, tool or rigid methodology, but as a comprehensive view of the enterprise. The best approach is put together individually for each customer from various methods and best practices. In this way, EA is viewed from a broader perspective and its full range is utilized.
What excites you about EA?
EA offers a perspective for viewing a company as a whole and understanding the relationships between all elements. It makes it possible to conceive companies as complex systems of individual gears and to recognize the role of each individual gear. I am passionate about working with clients to overcome the challenges they face and to design transformations that are in line with their corporate strategy. I also enjoy working with people from different areas. EA projects require close collaboration between different departments and functions of a company, which makes the work varied and exciting for me.
What are your tasks in client projects?
I support my clients from the initial idea to the successful implementation of a holistic enterprise architecture. Currently, I focus on the introduction and continuous improvement of EA practices. Together with the client, I determine the specific requirements for the enterprise architecture and develop customized architecture models that are based on the client’s business objectives, taking into account established standards like TOGAF. I also support the selection of suitable EA tools and guide their implementation. Through targeted training and practice-oriented workshops, I ensure that EA knowledge is anchored throughout the organization and that clients are able to further develop their enterprise architecture independently. I use regular analyses to identify optimization potentials and adapt the enterprise architecture to changing business requirements. My aim is to help companies optimize their corporate structure, reduce their IT costs and increase their agility. A well-thought-out enterprise architecture is the key to success.
Why did you decide to work in a consultancy and not in an industrial company?
There are many overlaps between the job descriptions of an architect and a consultant. Architects often work as consultants within the company. As an architect, for example, you work with reference architectures in order to optimize the architecture of your own company. In the role of a consultant, on the other hand, I experience different architectures first-hand and can therefore gain more experience with the respective advantages and disadvantages of individual methods or structures. As a consultant, I also have the opportunity to get to know a wide range of industries, companies and their associated structures, solutions and challenges. This coincides with my thirst for knowledge and the desire to constantly expand my knowledge in the field of EA.
