EAM Benchmarking

To promote the knowledge exchange in the field of enterprise architecture management (EAM) and support the maturity process in practice, Scape offers participation in an EAM benchmarking program that has been initiated in late 2013 in cooperation with the Chair of Information Systems | Software Economics & Information Management at Darmstadt University of Technology.

Approach

The benchmarking is based in our capability assessment model EAM³. EAM³ allows a systematic and sound measurement of the ability to effectively manage the enterprise architecture. In line with the approach known for business capabilities, different aspects are taken into consideration (e.g., processes, organization, culture).

Elements of a Capability

The relevant factors of an EA management capability are reflected by the seven core dimensions of EAM³. Each of these dimensions consists of a number of sub dimensions, which altogether comprise approx. 125 checkpoints. This allows a differentiated analysis of the EA management capability along with the identification of any existing deficiencies.

Assessment Dimensions

Data Collection / Assessment

Data collection takes place in a one-day, on-site assessment workshop. Within this workshop each checkpoint receives an individual rating. For specific aspects this requires the presentation of corresponding artifacts or deliverables.

Participation

Participation in the benchmarking program is possible for interested organizations from all industries. The benchmarking takes place annually in a defined time period of a few months and on an on-demand basis. As a participant you receive an informative final benchmarking report (in which other participants' data are anonymized). In addition, it is possible for participants to attend complementary community events.

Results

The benchmarking report for each participant contains a comprehensive and structured view of the individual EAM capability along the dimensions of the assessment model plus comparisons with the overall group of participants (anonymized). This is complemented with a qualitative appraisal and recommendations for improvement.
